David T. Hess of Odessa, TX, passed away December 29, 2015 in Odessa, TX.

A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 4, 2016 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4901 Maple Ave., Odessa, with Reverend Buddy Monahan officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

David was born October 29, 1940 to Jesse and Jean Hess in Yuma, Arizona. He grew up and went to school in Firebaugh, CA. He married Anna Cherie Thornton on June 4, 1975. His marriage to her was one of the happiest days of his life and they lived in contentment and joy for more than 40 years. David and Anna traveled widely in Europe, the Middle East and Asia; and particularly enjoyed traveling to Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and the Czech Republic. David wanted to visit with every single stranger he met and they made many lifelong friends.

Davie was a graduate of the University California at Davis, and received a Master of Science in Geology from U.C. San Diego. He worked driving his father's tractor at age 6; as a surveyor for laying out roads and farms as a teenager and as an oilfield roust-about and engineer's assistant for Texaco. He ended his career as a computer programmer for Texaco before it merged with Chevron. As a boy he was an expert chess player. He has lived in Texas for over 36 years.

He served as President of the Permian Basin Genealogical Society. He was an Elder for the Session at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

David loved animals, especially the cats he and Anna had over the years.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Anna Hess; brother, Donald Hess and his wife Susan of Sacramento, CA; sisters, Mary McDonald and her husband, Bill of Huntsville, Ala, Nancy Betz and her husband, Fred; 2 nephews, a niece and 5 great nephews and nieces of Seattle and Pepperell, Mass. He is also survived on his wife's side by Vance Arbuckle of Marietta, GA; an uncle, cousin, Joyce McKay of Dallas, TX and several nephews and nieces.

Most recently, David and Anna lived at Parks Retirement Village, which they appreciated and loved for the closeness and comradery extended by the other Park Village residents.

David and Anna would like to express their thanks to the skilled nursing and great kindness at the end of his life at Parks Retirement Village and Odessa Regional Hospital. Anna would also like to thank Dr. Yunt and especially Dr. Acreman, David's doctor for 30 years. David also asked Anna to say he would like to be rejoining his buddies for coffee next Monday morning.

The family requests that contributions be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church or to the charity of your choice.
