David Leon Waldrop joined his heavenly father on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 after a lengthy illness. David was born on February 20, 1939 in Abilene, Texas to James Arthur Waldrop and Luva Glenn Waldrop. David has spent all his life in Odessa, and graduated from Odessa High School.
David was eight years old when he started working at Oberkampf Supply sweeping out the warehouse and later became owner before retiring in 2005 due to his illness.
David married his beloved wife and soul mate Nell Brown Waldrop in 1981. David was a member of First Baptist Church in Odessa and served as a greeter and loved every moment. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.
David loved his family and friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. Everyone knowing David holds great memories of fun, laughter and friendship as he had numerous friends.
Davids hobbies included golf, flying airplanes, hunting, fishing, refurnishing old cars, rebuilding scooters and riding his Harley motorcycle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild Lindy Brown.
David is survived by his wife, Nell, of Odessa; his son Butch Waldrop and wife Terri of Odessa; daughter, Vicki Vickers of Odessa; step-sons, Jay Brown and wife Lisa of Arlington and John Brown and wife Lori of Odessa; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 25, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Odessa, with Dr. Bailey Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Josh Vickers, Britt Vickers, Bradley Vickers, David Alan Waldrop, E.P. Gaston and Bryan Wyley.
