D. D. Dean, 88, loving husband and father, went to be with his lord on Monday, February 10, 2014. D. D. Dean was brought into this world on August 10, 1925 in Palestine, Texas. He attended school in Palestine and after graduation from high school he enlisted in the Merchant Marines during world war II and traveled all over the world.
He was very proud of having served his country during World War II and he shared many wonderful stories of this time with his children throughout the years. After his discharge from the service, he went back to Palestine, Texas and married the love of his life, Edith Imogene Wilbanks on October 30, 1947.
They lived many places during their marriage including Palestine, TX, Longlake, TX, Venice, Louisiana, Conroe, TX, and on August 16, 1966, they made their final move to Odessa, TX.
D. D. Dean worked for Tidewater Oil Company Getty Oil Company for 28 years from 1953 to 1981. For the majority of his employment at the oil company, he also held down second jobs to better provide for his family.
One of the second jobs he held during this time was as night manager at Busbys Bowling Lanes and he held this position for several years in addition to his day job at the oil company. Prior to his retirement from Getty, he started his own business, Trophy Den Pro Shop.
He owned and operated the Trophy Den for several years until he bought Sky Lanes Bowling Alley in Odessa. The bowling alley kept him plenty busy and in 1995 he officially retired from the bowling alley business. At that point, D. D. went to work for his sweet wife the little round woman as he liked to call her to irritate the grandkids and took care of her faithfully and happily until her death on May 1, 2003.
D. D. was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Dean, his father, Bert Dean, his mother, Rubie Dean, his brothers, James Dean, Emory Dean, Burma Dean, Willard Dean, and his sister, Eva Tinney.
He was also preceded in death by his son in law, Jody Miller on May 3, 1996. He is survived by his children, Deborah Tyson and husband, Mike of Midland Tanya Cooper and husband Craig of Odessa Nancy Duncan of Odessa and Dalton Dean of Denver city.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Danny Miller, Kara Miller, Leah Cooper Reil, Kayli Cooper, Brandy Dean, Levi Duncan, and Callie Dean and three great grandchildren, Madison Miller, Malachi Cooper and Kaleah Bergen.
Funeral services for D. D. Dean
will be on Thursday February 13,2014 at Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas with Brother Ivy Shelton presiding. Funeral arrangements are with Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Pall bearers will be Danny Miller, Craig Cooper, Chris Reil, Mike Tyson, Jimmy Martin, and David Pope.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made in his name to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX 79761
