Deward Gordy Sr.

Deward Wayne Gordy, Sr., 83, of Odessa, passed away on April 18, 2014 in Odessa.

Visitation will be from 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Chapel.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Clydell Chapman officiating. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Deward was born in Wienert, Texas to Joseph Sanderson Gordy Sr., and Vada Beatrice Gladish on April 15, 1931 . He married Cecil Pauline Chance on September 30, 1960 in Cd. Juarez, Chih., Mexico. He was VicePresident of Operations for Sterling Drilling Co. He served in the United States Army.

Deward loved to watch his grandkids play, and was a loving grandpa that they called Papa. He enjoyed taking the kids to the lake and Six Flags. He enjoyed playing golf, enjoyed taking walks and having barbecues. Deward also enjoyed playing cards and dominoeshe was known for changing the rules. Deward was a true believer in Christianity.

Deward is preceded in death by both his parents Joseph Sanderson and Vada Beatrice his wife Cecil Pauline Chance and daughter Vada Ann Burmeister.

Deward is survived by his brothers R.C. Gordy of Georgetown, Texas, Joseph S. Gordy, Jr., of Greely, Colorado, and Bill Gordy of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and one sister Maxine Barton of Midland, sons Joe Lindsey Gordy and wife Billie of Odessa, D.W. Gordy Jr. and wife Becky of Haskell, Texas, Rodney Gordy and wife Raquel, and John Gordy and wife Lisa of Odessa, Texas daughter Donna Pittman and husband Bobby of Odessa, Texas, 14 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
