Visitation will be held Monday, April 13, 2009 from 5-7:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home.
DeWayne passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday April 10, 2009 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
DeWayne was born in Emporia, KS and grew up in the New Mexico towns of Hatch, Roswell, and Deming moving as his father followed the Lords call to pastor Southern Baptist churches in these towns. In college, DeWayne was ordained as a Baptist Deacon and served in that capacity at several churches throughout his life. He also served his Lord through music with his saxophone and tenor voice.
While pursuing an engineering degree at New Mexico State University, he met his best friend and future wife, Debbie. They worshipped together at the Baptist Student Union, and after DeWaynes tennis court proposal, the couple was married on July 18, 1969.
In 1984, DeWayne began work at Miether Bearing Products in Odessa, ultimately becoming president of the company. DeWayne earned the admiration and respect of his employees, customers, and all those who dealt with him as a fair and kind man who led his company with solid business acumen and a steadfast Christian faith.
After work, DeWayne loved the outdoors. He was never happier than when he was planting trees or riding his bicycle with his family. As part of a family vacation, he completed a 30-mile-a-day bike tour of Italy last summer. He also trained and ran a half- marathon with Debbie to raise money for stroke research and awareness.
DeWayne is survived by his wife, Debbie, son Eric, partner in an environmental law firm in Austin, and his wife Jennifer Carr Allmon, son Chris, an orthopaedic surgery resident in Baltimore, and his wife Yunsun Nam Allmon, son Dave, a business associate for a computer company in Palo Alto, CA, and his wife May Lee Allmon, his parents Reverend Wayne and Laura Allmon of San Angelo, TX and sister Lavon Lilja of Ruidoso, NM.
DeWayne was one of nearly 38,000 Americans who were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2007. In lieu of flowers, DeWaynes family requests memorials be sent to PanCAN, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
