Dollie Ione Edmonds (Herndon), age 90, was called home after a brief illness on December 1, 2023, in Odessa, TX.
A visitation will be held December 5, 2023, from 1pm-2pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will immediately follow at 2:30pm in the chapel.
Dollie was born in Anson, TX on July 3, 1933, to L.H. Herndon and Ila White Herndon. She attended Anson High School where she was a majorette and was voted most beautiful. She graduated in 1950 and then married the love of her life, James Hagens Edmonds, on June 26, 1951. Mom enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She made friends and influenced people wherever she went. Golf was her passion. A couple of her greatest pleasures were playing in couples’ tournaments with her husband and bowling with her family in leagues at Busby’s. In her later stages of life she became known as NanNan and her focus was on her granddaughters and her great grandchildren. She loved telling them stories and dancing with them in her living room.
Mom was our little firecracker. She was feisty, ornery and she was the life of the party.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Hagens Edmonds; her parents, LH & Ila Herndon; her five siblings, Simon Herndon, Kenneth Herndon, Leona Fortenberry, Billy Bob Herndon and Patty Caffey.
She is survived by her son, Jim Edmonds (Vickie); daughter, Marla Reese (Gary); her 5 granddaughters, Ashley Thinel (Sebastien), Whitney Lackey (Patrick), Chelsea Edmonds, Maegan Greer (Josh), and Hailey Dubord (Jocelyn); 10 great grandchildren, Maddx & Jett Thinel, Reese & Hudson Lackey, Chaynee and Cayson Carrell, Paisley & Jameson Greer and Knoxx & Jakk Dubord; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be Gene Burkhaulter, Brian Smith, Barney Nunez, Don Shelton, Chuck Soileau and Reese Lackey. Honorary pallbearers are Patrick & Hudson Lackey, Josh & Jameson Greer and Darrell Fifer. Each of you held a special place in her heart.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks for the love and care of our mother to the nurses and doctors at Medical Center Hospital. We would also like to acknowledge the staff in hospice for providing comfort in her final hours.
