Don Lawson, 83, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, peacefully in his home.
Don was born January 15, 1939, to Louie (PeeWee) and Susie Lawson in Elmer, Oklahoma. He went to school in McCamey, Texas, and graduated in 1957. He married the love of his life, Mary Ruth Culvahouse, on January 31, 1958. Later in October of 1958, Don and Mary welcomed their oldest son, Jack Lawson. Shortly after, their family was complete with the birth of Dan Lawson in 1960. In 1973, Don and Mary moved their family to Sonora, Texas when he transferred with Tom Brown Drilling as the district manager. While in Sonora, Don served as the liaison between the oilfield and local ranchers, served on the school board, and enjoyed raising his boys in a small town. After his boys graduated from high school, Don moved back to Odessa where he advanced his oilfield career until he was the vice president of drilling at TMBR Sharp Drilling Company. Don was an avid bass fisherman and passed his passion to his sons and grandson. He loved his family and chewing tobacco. Don had a special relationship with his sister, Jeanette Lawson Bennett. His beloved dog Otto also held a special place in his heart.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, PeeWee and Susie Lawson; his wife, Mary Lawson; his oldest son, Jack Lawson; his “chosen” daughter, Prissy Pollot; and brother-in-law, Danny Bennett.
Don is survived by his son, Dan Lawson and wife Susan of Fulshear; his grandchildren, Heather Cearley and husband Cole, Hillary Galindo and husband Andy, Hunter Lawson and wife Allyse all of Sonora, and Danali Lawson of Fulshear; his sister, Jeanette Lawson Bennett of San Angelo; great grandchildren, include Lynden, Lane, and Luke Cearley, Brailyn, Jackson, and Avery Galindo, Jazlyn Garcia, and Weston Lawson all of Sonora. Don also helped raise and considered Billy Bob Galbreath, of San Angelo, to be another one of his sons.
