Donald Mack Brown, age 84, passed peacefully among family members on September 13, 2017. Don was born to Mack and Winnie Brown in Sweetwater Texas on July 30, 1933. He graduated from Abilene Christian High School. While working for the railroad in Abilene Texas he continued on to receive a Bachelors of Science Degree in marketing from Abilene Christian College in 1955. At the age of 13, he held his first job with a paper route in Abilene Texas. He then followed up by working in his fathers' grocery stores in both Abilene and Sweetwater, Texas. Don married Carol McDermett in 1953 and they were married 31 years. Don earned membership and was awarded in the Life Insurance acclaimed Million Dollar Round Table in 1969 and remained a member for over 50 years while serving clients throughout Texas and abroad with Life Insurance.
Don loved playing tennis with his friends up until the age of 74. Don's favorite place in the world was his cabin in Ruidoso, Cloud Villa II. He loved entertaining friends and family at his cabin.
The family of Donald Mack Brown want to thank all of the doctors, Home Hospice, and caregivers for all of their years of support and also the beautiful loving people of IHOP in Odessa, Texas. We have been told from Don time and time again of how special and how much love he had for the West Texas people. Don had a full life and enjoyed life with incredible optimism, pride and encouraging words. Our family will miss him greatly and his wonderful sense of humor and love for family. We do not have the words to express our thanks for our Mother, for her unrelenting love and support for Don. She is truly a saint. He has been a longstanding member of 6th and Jackson Church of Christ in Odessa, Texas. His faith and love for Jesus Christ has given our family comfort in knowing that we will see him again in heaven.
Don is survived by his four children, Tony M. Brown and wife Cynthia of Houston Texas, Terry M. Brown of Odessa, Texas, Tad A. Brown and his wife Melda of Odessa Texas and Tamara D. Powers and her husband Dan of Odessa Texas; his six grandchildren Joshua Brown, Tausha Gonzalez, Brittany Hunt, Jody Powers, Jordan Powers and Chloe Brown; his two sisters Rosemary Hays of Abilene and Judy McDaniel of Tulia Texas. He also has four great grandchildren.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Winnie Brown; as well as his sister, Maxine Swindle and brother's Jackie Brown, Bill G. Brown and Hugh Clark Brown.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Monday, September 18, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jody Powers, Jordan Powers, Josh Brown, George Gonzalez and Nelson Hunt.
Honorary Pallbearers will be John Bushman, Larry Crutcher, John Calls, Ernie Lynch, David Sharp, Don Thomas and Dr. Life Barnard.
Officiating the ceremony will be Emmett Barnard and Brittany Hunt.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Lubbock Children's Home or Abilene Christian University in his memory.
