Donald Wayne Gibson, 64, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas, with his children at his side.
A private memorial will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, with a celebration of his life taking place in Breckenridge, Texas.
Donald Don was born January 17, 1944 in Dangerfield, Texas. He attended schools in Breckenridge and then became a soldier in the U.S. Army where he was stationed primarily in Greenland, helping to build the City under the ice. He went on to do oilfield construction work and was one of the men to set the first nuclear reactor in Glen Rose, Texas. Don loved to fish, hunt, and camp. He was a man who loved the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Edgar and Doris Marie Gibson, grandparents, Harvey and Alta Deaver, and grandson J.R.
Survivors include Son, Royce Gibson, Grandson Austin and Granddaughter Ciera; Daughter, Doris Darcy Escobar, Granddaughters, Hiley, Samantha and Kaeleigh; Brother, Jerry Gibson and wife Judy of Breckenridge; Sister, Sheila Pester and husband James of Breckenridge; Sister, Karen Houghton of Haltom City; a very close cousin whom he considered a brother and friend, Roy H. Deaver and wife Wanda of Rome, Texas. He is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Don gave the ultimate gift of life to others and it is the wish of his family that memorials be made to Hospice House, 903 North Sam Houston in Odessa, Texas, 79761, the American Diabetes Association or Genesis Donor, Medical Education and Research Institute 1-877-288-Give, so that we may all do our part to help find a cure for Alzheimers.
