Donald Leek

January 2, 1927 — June 12, 2014

Donald Don Edward Leek, age 87, of Odessa, passed away at his home on June 12, 2014. He was born on January 2, 1927 in Covington, Oklahoma to William Oral Leek and Violet Janette Crawford Leek. He was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from Classen High School. Dons love of food and new recipes led to his serving as Director of Food and Nutrition for several years at St. Stephens School in Austin. In 1948 he moved to Odessa where he remained until his death. He was affiliated with Vaughn Co., which was renamed Leek Fire Safety, a family owned and operated business. He retired from there in 2002 after more than 40 years of service. Don was active in the Sons of the American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, The Elks Lodge and he was an original member of the Permian Playhouse. He was also a member of First Baptist Church. Don loved God, Family and the Arts, in that order. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Leek. He is survived by sisterinlaw Judy Leek of Odessa his niece, Suzanne Taylor and her husband, Steve, of Marble Falls great nephew Bill Earls of Odessa great nephew Richard Earls and his wife, Renee, of Odessa and their children, Mitchell Liz Earls and their son Gavin, Morgan Earls and Preston Earls nephew Dan Peoples and his wife, Sharon, of Irving and their children nephew Ronnie Peoples and his wife, JoBeth, of Weatherford and their children, along with many friends. The family wishes to thank great nephew Bill Earls, who was Dons longtime devoted caregiver. Special thanks also to caretaker Betty Butts and The Hospice Team for the wonderful care they gave Don, which allowed him to stay in his home. Don will be remembered as a caring, generous and gracious man who was a blessing to many.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 10am in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Odessa with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Hospice of Odessa.
