Donald R. Stroud, 87 of Midland, died peacefully on September 25, 2009 at his home.

He was born on May 28, 1922 in Springtown, TX to Penny and Lena Mae Stroud and was one of ten children. He attended school at Courtney. He married Mary Alice Newsom on November 11, 1939 in Stanton, TX and raised two beautiful daughters. He worked in the oil field for most of his life and then later tried his hand at farming cotton in Stanton and Greenwood until retiring in the early 90s.

Survivors include his daughter: Carol Tiedt of Anderson, TX, a sister, Ruth Holloway of Orlando, Fl, brother, Wayne Stroud of Stanton, grandsons:

Donald Smith of Midland and Bryan Wootton of Montgomery, TX and granddaughter, Janice Holley of Midland, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, his parents, three of his brothers, four sisters, a daughter and a grandson.

Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, September 28,2009 at 2:00 P.M.with Phil Stroud officating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Kenneth Kelley, Kermit Lewis, Dwight Freeman, Kenny Stewart, Bud Glaspie, Teddy Stewart and Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Evans, Hoot Leonard and Russell Brooks.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Funeral Home
