Donald Swinney

Donald R. Swinney, 87, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 in Odessa.

He was born to a family with farm and dairy background on April 13, 1922, in Breckenridge, Texas, to Owen D. Swinney and Odessa Luttrell. He was raised around Cisco, Texas. He graduated from Scranton High School. He worked in shipyards in California, and then joined the Marine Corps in 1942. After the war he worked as a mechanic in California. He married Neoma Lavanda Hall on February 18, 1943 in San Diego, California. He moved to Odessa, Texas during 1953 and went to work for the Western Co. as a mechanic. He later went to work for Odessa National Gas Co. as an engine operator. He worked there until he retired in 1984. He was a good Christian man and a member of the Living Word Church. He loved to garden, and he loved to build and fix things. He was always working at the church. He loved his church. He loved being with family and grandchildren. He loved to go to all the school functions with his grandkids as well as baseball and basketball games. He traveled all over West Texas watching his grandkids rodeo.

He was preceded in death by his brother Billy R. Swinney. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Neoma of 66 Years of marriage; a son Don Swinney, wife, Kathy; his daughter Brenda Gutierrez, husband, Eustolio and Matthew Curd of Odessa; Grandchildren, Stephen Curd, wife Dawn of Carrollton, Texas, and children, Amber Wright, Toby and Brandy Chelf; Wesley Curd, of Teague, Texas; Sjanna and Bobby Drum, of Lubbock, daughter Syndi; Brandon Swinney, and wife Alicia, son Kai; Shelby and husband Mo Marquez of Odessa; Sister-in-law Doris Swinney of Odessa; and brother Jack Swinney, and wife Viola of Paris, Arkansas.

Visitation with the family will be 6-8 P.M. Tuesday October 6, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday October 7, 2009 at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Freddy Steen officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
