Donnie George “Howdy” Melton, 68, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, September 3rd, 2021, in Odessa.
A memorial will be held at 10am Wednesday the 8th at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Aaron Zapata officiating. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial.
Donnie “Howdy” was born in Coalgate, Oklahoma on December 22, 1952, and came to Texas as soon as he could with his parents George and Eileen Melton. As a child, he would spend his summers with his sister, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents at Lake Murray, Oklahoma. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1971. He worked as a contract welder and mechanic all his life. He was very proud of his Choctaw heritage. He loved watching Dallas Cowboy football, NASCAR, and old western movies. He also played BCA Pool and league bowling. He seemed to know everybody. His charisma and sense of humor garnered him many friends. He was definitely one of a kind.
Donnie is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles.
He is survived by his only daughter Scarlet Rodriguez of Odessa and husband Ruben, Sister Beverly Ford of Odessa and husband Vance, grandchildren Ethan, Arianna, Kathryn, and Gianna.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
The family of Donnie wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Medical Center Hospital, specifically the EMS crew, the Emergency department, the staff on 8 Central, and all of the doctors who cared for him during his last days.
