Dorene Lois Tams Becht passed away on February 2, 2014.
Dorene was born in Huron, S. Dakota on June 7, 1921, to Fred and Faye Tams. She had one sister, Lucille Tams Chancey. She met and married J. Edwin Becht in Chicago, Illinois. Mrs. Becht followed her husband to many different universities until they arrived in Odessa, Texas in June of 1972 where they were involved in bringing the plans for UTPB to fruition.
Mrs. Becht was a talented seamstress and lent her talent to Interfaith to teach sewing to lower income women and she taught a sewing extension class at Odessa Community College. She was a member of the Alamanders and High Skys square dance clubs and traveled to many places for dances. Mrs. Becht was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Odessa.
Dorene is leaving behind her children: Forrest Carol Becht, Darrell Denise Baum Becht, Kimberley Becht Pitman, and Bette Jim Hall Becht. Nine grandchildren: Warren Trudy Becht, Todd Jennifer Becht, Kent Jessica Pitman, Troy Patricia Becht, Trent Jessica Becht, Alex Cohen, Tammy Becht Hicks, Carla Geoff Mandrella, and Drew Kaitlyn Pitman. She also leaves behind 15 greatgrandchildren: A.J. Cohen, Taylor Pitman, Gabriel Becht, Joaquin Cohen, Morgan Pitman, Maddox Becht, Audrey Becht, Paige Pitman, Madison Becht, Ashlynn Pitman, Averyanna Pitman, Viktor Becht, Kaleb Hicks, Faith Hicks, and Pearl Becht.
Mrs. Becht is preceded in death by her husband, J. Edwin Becht her partner, Donald Proctor her parents, Fred and Faye Tams, and her sister, Lucille Chancey.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on February 6, 2014 at 4 p.m. with Reverend Norman Stolpe officiating . In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to West Texas Gifts of Hope Hope House Odessa, PO Box 891, Odessa, TX 79760.
