Doris May Brunson Duncan, age 81, of Gardendale, TX passed away on March 1, 2017 in Gardendale.
Doris was born April 18, 1935 to Joy V. and Mary Brunson in Odessa, TX. She attended school in Odessa while growing up. She became a teacher and taught school for ECISD (Bowie 1967-1976 and OHS 1976-1994). She retired from ECISD in 1994. She came to believe she was a writer and a poet. She married the love of her life Stanley Duncan, May 21, 1954.
The best gifts ever given to her are her husband of 61 years, Stanley Duncan, her daughter Angela Marie Duncan Gaddis, her son in law Kevin Gene Gaddis, her grandson Stanley Gene Gaddis and his wife Jenny Davis Gaddis, her wonderful parents, (deceased), Joy V. and Mary Brunson and brilliant sisters, Mary Joy Brunson Warner, (deceased) and Lucille Bida, retired teacher and gifted pianist and artist.
The greatest lessons learned over her almost 82 years: There is nothing more constant than change, this too shall pass, there is a higher power inside us that informs and protects, everything has a rhythm and "In a dark time, the eye begins to see." Theodore Roethke.
In lieu of a Memorial Service, Doris requests that you volunteer time, money and efforts to the SPCA and especially to the care of cats.
