Doris Gaston passed away February 25, 2015 following a brief illness. Born Doris Irene to Charles and Mary Staats in Jennings, Oklahoma on December 16, 1921, " Nana" was 93 years young.
She was married to her high school sweetheart, Gordon Gaston, for 70 years before his death in 2012. Mrs. Gaston was a dedicated wife and mother who balanced homemaking with restaurant operations over most of her career. She loved working in the public, playing bridge and spending time with her family. During their marriage, Doris and Gordon were active in a variety of churches, masonic lodges and bridge clubs in both Oklahoma and Texas. Her only daughter will remember her momma as a person of integrity who worked hard to provide extras for the family, who had a precious servant heart, and was always willing to help in the kitchen or host a bridge party. Her grandchildren will remember her cute sense of humor, her great smile, her love of a good card game, and for always having a "hanky" in her hand.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Aaron, Don, and Harold Staats, and one granddaughter, Tracy D'Anne. Survivors include her daughter Charleen (Charle) Scott and her husband Wayne, her brother Walt Staats, four sisters-in-law, Dolores Gaston, Donna, Gerry, and Wilma Staats. She will be missed by her granddaughters Christi Holloway and Shayne Adcock, their husbands Bryant and Rodney, and five great grandchildren, Jordan, Hayden, and Madison Brown, Jay T and Kye Adcock, all of Odessa, and numerous nieces and nephews who called her "Aunt Do."
A private family interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a memorial service on March 14 at 2:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa. The family expresses appreciation to all the caregivers who gave Nana comfort during her illness. Memorials may be sent to West Texas Gifts of Hope, Inc. at PO Box 891, Odessa Tx 79760. Gifts of Hope supports HOPE HOUSE ODESSA with free lodging and services for patients who are receiving cancer treatment at the West Texas Cancer Center.
