Doris Jeanne Peck, 93, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2023. Born March 30, 1929 in Memphis Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Maude Jean Cochran and Lester Howard Nimmo. Her husband, Donald Peck, and her twin brother, Morris Nimmo, preceded her in death.
Doris graduated from Memphis State University in 1955 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and later in 1959 with an M.A. degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She served the Lord as a missionary educator in Monrovia, Liberia with the Assemblies of God between 1960 and 1974. During that time, she met her husband Donald, and they were married in 1974. After they married, they served together as pastors at Montana’s Crow Reservation and later at churches in Delta Junction, Alaska and Hydaburg, Alaska. They then served at the Assemblies of God church in Klukwan, Alaska between 1985 and 1996. They retired and settled permanently in Haines, Alaska.
Doris was a remarkable and wonderful lady. She loved God and served Him faithfully all of her life. She loved people and considered everyone as a friend. Doris followed Jesus’ example and laid down her life for Him and for others, and she encouraged all of us to do the same. Her reward in heaven will be great.
Doris is survived by her niece, Jennifer Coston of Huddleston, Virginia, her two nephews, Stephen Nimmo of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Dale Nimmo of Wake Forest, North Carolina, by nieces of her husband Donald, and by numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at Haines Christian Center, led by Rev. Jane Cowart and Rev. Joe Filancia. Doris’ burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas, next to her husband Donald.
