Dorothy Dahlman

Dorothy Pettit Dahlman, 91, of Midland, Texas passed away April 19, 2018 in Midland, Texas.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, April 23, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas with Reverend Larry Hood officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dorothy Dahlman was born in Bronte, Texas, to Robert E. Lee Rogers and Vertie Best Rogers, on June 13, 1926. She graduated valedictorian of Crane High School. She married William Harold Pettit on February 1, 1944 in Crane, Texas. Dorothy remarried after the passing of Harold to Bill Dahlman in the late 70's. Dorothy attended Texas Tech. Dorothy was a business owner and prepared taxes for over 60 years.
Dorothy was involved in Eastern Star as a lifetime member, volunteered at the South Plains Food Bank, worked with her husband in their joint love for Masons and Eastern Star charities.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Robert E. Lee Rogers and Vertie Rogers, her sister Breta Adams, her first husband Harold Pettit, her second husband Bill Dahlman, her son Roger Alan Pettit and grandson Brian Landry Quillin.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Barbara Jean Quillin and son-in-law Barney Quillin and daughter-in-law Donna Vanderveer and husband Larry Vanderveer. Granna has many grandchildren and great grandchildren who love her: Jason and Jennifer Pettit, Cory and Sheridan Pettit, Todd and Amy Vanderveer, Traci and Jorge Forero and Brenna and Mike Gaskins, Bari and David Sons; great grandchildren include Colgin and Taylor Pettit, Shelby and Stockton Pettit, Max, Kennedy, Sophia and Jake Forero, Aaron and Aubrey Gaskins and Denver and Dylan Sons.

Pallbearers are Barney Quillin, Larry Vanderveer, Jason Pettit, Cory Pettit, Todd Vanderveer and Cody Gary.

Memorials may be given to the South Plains Food Bank or to the Cancer Society of their choosing.

The family of Dorothy Dahlman wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Rizo, Dr. Barnett, Dr. Gil, Midland Hospice, Charles and Rosa her Physical Therapists and nurses at Crane Memorial Hospital.

Dorothy has worked all her life beginning as age 5 picking cotton, selling popcorn and movie tickets. She and her sister ironed 40 to 50 shirts every afternoon after school at age 12 for their parent's laundry in Crane, Texas. She cleaned houses, babysat and did office work as well in her youth. As well as helping her husband run B&H Electric she was a stenographer and court reporter for John Watts Law firm. After the death of her husband Bill Dahlman in late 80's she moved to Lubbock and worked as Texas Tech Alumni data clerk and retired from office work at the Bankruptcy Court in Lubbock. She continued preparing taxes until the time of her death at the age of 91. She loved life and enjoyed challenges as well as meeting new and interesting people. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spoke often of all of them and their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. "Yes, I can" was her personal motto and encouraged all her tax clients who she considered family to work hard, work long and never quit. That is the secret of success she would always say. We will miss her very much.
