Dorothy Blanche White Humphries was born to Floyd and Syrilda White in Lamar, Colorado on May 28, 1927 and proceeded to live a life of strength, determination and legendary romance.

Although she was a child of the Great Depression, Dorothy would laugh until she cried when recalling childhood memories with her cousin and best friend, Mildred. She never shied from hard work and did her part in WWII by making hand grenades, a job which turned her beautiful blonde hair red.
Dorothy was brilliant at recognizing the potential for happiness in all situations. She created her own fairy tale when she met Army soldier Elton Humphries and immediately fell madly in love. She married him three days later and loved him passionately for the rest of her life---long after his untimely death. Their love produced five children: Diane, Danny, Peggy, Susan and Janet. She raised strong, independent daughters and a compassionate son. Dorothy could not have loved her children more and they loved her equally as much.
Dorothy was "Ma" to twenty-one grandchildren, over 30 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren---each of whom would swear to being Ma's favorite. Ma was the type of grandmother every child needs: the horny toad hunting, locust catching, defender of the grandchild against all enemies kind of grandmother. She was the grandmother with the "sick couch" when school was too much and open arms when life was too hard. She elfed and roadtripped. She hosted slumber parties and movie nights. She was a place of comfort and happiness and each of her grandchildren and great children know how lucky they were to be loved by Ma.
Even as Dorothy fought her final battle, she was full of laughter and spirit. Dorothy's family is forever grateful to Star Hospice for ensuring that her last months were as full of laughter and spirit as the rest of her life. We are particularly grateful to Roxie and Terry for loving Dorothy as she loved them.
In the early morning hours of October 31, 2015, Dorothy took the hand of her beloved husband and joined him in Heaven. She was surrounded by love when she left and was received with even greater love when she arrived. Although our hearts are broken, we rejoice in knowing that her heart is overflowing. She is now reunited with her husband, her two Dachshund children Buddy and Jackson, along with her parents and brothers.
She leaves her legacy to be carried on by: Diane and Larry Myers, Dan and Anita Humphries, Peggy and Wally Neeley, Susan and Johnny Hamlet, and Janet Eklund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
