Dorothy Olive

Dorothy Jean Smith Olive was born on June 23, 1929 in Kansas to James Lee and Maude Mae Smith. Dorothy came to Odessa with her husband, James R. Olive in 1956 from Longview, Texas. In their early years, she was busy being a homemaker and raising children. In the spring of 1968, she embarked on the journey of her lifetime. She and her husband J.R. opened a diesel mechanic shop together. OK Diesel Service became her labor of love for the next 22 years. Together they built a nice little business with a lot of fantastic friends along the way. Even in retirement, life brought her another job with the E.C.I.S.D. Food Service. She worked as a pastry cook and cashier at Travis Elementary. Dorothy loved being surrounded by all the children and their laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, J.R. Olive in December 1998 her brothers, James L. Smith, Jr. of Kansas, Max Smith of N. Carolina, Darrell Smith of Dallas, Tx, and Bill Smith of San Diego, California and soninlaw, Don W. Thomas of Odessa.

She is survived by one sister, Marilyn and D.R. Harris of Kilgore, Tx. her children, Ben and Pam Durall of Arlington, Tx., Judy Smith of Odessa, Tx., Gail and Dale McCord of McAllen, Tx., and Tammie Thomas of Odessa, Tx. Grandchildren, Richard and Fanci Pease, Jami Burleson, Michael and Charlene Thomas, Christopher and Jessica Thomas, all of Odessa, James R. McCord and Jason McCord of McAllen, Tx., Ben David Durall, III, of Virginia and Richard Lange of Corpus Christi, Tx., and her beloved great grandchildren, Tyler Burleson, Emily Thomas, Michelle Thomas, Katlyn Thomas, Lilly Thomas, Nicholas Thomas, Brooklyn Thomas, and Tara Pease and many friends.

We love you and will miss you greatly.

Visitation with the family will be 46 PM Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, January 18, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Wes Duncan of Trinity Baptist Church officiating.
