Dr. Mary Louise Roy Nieball, 79 of Midland died June 4, 2008 in Grapevine, TX. She was born in Odessa, Texas on February 28, 1929, the daughter of Tom and Angela Roy. At age 15 Mary got her first job in the public library and started a life long journey of Library Science. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1947 and received an Associate in Arts degree from Odessa College in 1956. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from Sul Ross State College in 1959, she enrolled in the School of Library Science at Texas Womans University and was awarded the Master of Library Science degree in 1963. She received a Master of Arts in Education degree in 1971 from the United States International University in San Diego, California. Library experience includes ten years with the Ector County Library, Odessa, Texas; four years as a school librarian with the Ector County Independent School District, Odessa, Texas; and eleven years as a librarian at Odessa College, where she became Head Librarian in 1967. Mary was one of the first American Indian women to receive a PHD in Texas Womans University in Denton, TX. In 1950 she married Paul R. Nieball of Muenster, Texas. They have two sons; Paul Jay Nieball and Jon Roy Nieball of Midland, Texas.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 7:00 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Midland 2104 W. Louisiana Ave. with Kelan Roy officiating.
