Our loving father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, Earl Nelson Jones, went to be with his precious Lord and Savior on Friday March 16, 2012. He was 87 years old. He was born in Big Spring, Texas on April 12, 1924 to Abe and Fannie Mae Jones. He married Betty Dorries on February 9, 1946 and they had five children.
He and his five brothers started Jones Brothers Dirt and Paving in 1952. He was a 32nd Mason and Shriner. He was also a member of the Odessa Sherriffs Posse for many years. Dancing was one of his biggest passions. He loved people, dancing, exercising and talking about his adventures. He was a member of Faith Community Baptist Church with his dear friend Brother Wayne Shelton. He loved writing singing songs. He has a copyrighted song, Looking for a Fiddle and a Hard Wood Floor. He found great pleasure in calling people to sing songs to them and play the harmonica, or as he liked to call it, The French Harp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Fannie Mae Jones his wife, Betty Jones his son, Gary Nelson Jones and his five brothers, Barnie, Troy, Slim, Curly and Bobby Jones. He is survived by his children, Ricky Jones and wife, Glenna Vikki Looney and husband, Lonnie Cole Jones and wife, Phyllis and Paula Elrod and husband, Thomas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Gary Jones Jr., Shane Jones, Chad Jones, Dan Jones and wife, Tonya, Steven Jones, Rachel Fischer and husband, Charlie, Jay Coleman and wife, Gerri, Misti Hines, Kasey Coleman and wife, Amanda, Chance Coleman and wife, Jennifer, Michelle Colley and husband, Charles, Mandy Brown and husband, Shawn, Cole Jones Jr. and wife, Anna, Lauren Elrod, Madison Elrod, thirty greatgrandchildren, one greatgreat grandchild, numerous nieces nephews.
We will greatly miss our beloved father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather. He was one of a kind. There will never again be another Earl Nelson Jones. We will miss his sweet smile, his laughter, his singing, and his harmonica playing.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, March 18th, from 4:006:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19th, at Sunset Memorial Chapel at 1:00 pm. Brother Wayne Shelton, Pastor of Faith Community Baptist Church, will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Masonic gravesite rites.
