Earl Hamlett Shaw, 56, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Earl was born in El Paso, Texas on October 10, 1957. He was the beloved son of Dr. Bill and Mary Lu Shaw. He grew up in Odessa where he graduated from Permian High School in 1977. He was an Eagle Scout and was awarded the Order of the Arrow and Vigil. He loved the Boy Scout Ranch near Fort Davis.
He married Brenda Weber, the love of his life, on May 15, 1982 in Odessa. On December 5, 1989, his son Jeremy was born. Earl considered his son to be his best buddy and always supported and believed in him. Earl loved all his family and enjoyed big family dinners and trips to Ruidoso. He loved animals especially his two dogs Chelsea and Princess and his sons cat Sasha.
Earl worked as a construction superintendent for Hawkins Construction Co. for many years. He loved his work and took pride in his workmanship on all his jobs and especially in the work on his church. There was not any vehicle or piece of heavy equipment that he couldnt drive or operate.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was the goto guy for any maintenance or other problems. He loved fishing, hunting, and cooking with his friends for church gatherings. He liked to draw, make models and loved watching shows on military history.
Earl was a kind and gentle spirit. He was always willing to help, no matter when he was called or what the request. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He was loved more than he will ever know and he will be missed beyond measure.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Shaw and his son, Jeremy Shaw of Odessa his mother Mary Lu Shaw of Odessa his sister, Ruth Ann McQuitty of Odessa his brother, Billy Shaw and partner Jimmy Hill of Garner, NC father and motherinlaw, Everett Sharon Weber of Odessa nephews, Mike McQuitty wife Cassie of Ft. Worth David McQuitty of Odessa great nieces Madie Marlie McQuitty many cousins and great friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Terry Tamplen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Buffalo Trail Council of the Boy Scouts or to the First United Methodist Church, Odessa.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses on the 8th floor and 4th floor CCU of Medical Center Hospital for their superb attention, care and kindness.
