Edith Durham

April 28, 1912 — March 25, 2008

P P
Edith Mae Durham left her earthly life and entered her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior on March 25, 2008. Welcoming her home were her family, husband, and many friends.

She was born April 28, 1912 in Maypearl, TX to Jesse Homer McCarley and Minnie Maxia Hart McCarley. She was raised and attended school in Maypearl. After her fathers death when she was 4 years old, she, her mother and brother lived with her grandparents.

On August 6, 1940 she and Orville Lee Durham were married in Eastland, TX. He has been waiting in Heaven for her since March 26, 1988. Edith has lived in many places in her life, including Ranger, Dallas, New Boston, and Gainesville in Texas. She has lived in Durango, Co and Longmont, Co with her daughter and family after she was widowed.

Mother was a very talented artist who never reached her potential, as she felt her husband and daughter were her priorities. She was an excellent seamstress. Her cakes and potato salad were always in demand. Decorating her home was a great joy for her. People who knew her loved her for her tender, quiet, loving personality who never had a harsh word for anyone.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and nephew.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Kay and Donnie White of Odessa, two grandchildren, Donna Decker of Odessa and Gary White of Gunnison, CO, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family wants the staff at Seabury Center and Home Hospice to know how much we sincerely appreciate and are thankful for all their compassionate and loving care given to her.

Services will be held Thursday March 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Braswell officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday March 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas, TX with Steve Herrera officiating.
