Edith Mcfarland

March 10, 1925 — December 7, 2018

Edith May McFarland, 93 of Midland, passed away on December 7, 2018 at her home in Midland, TX.

Memorial service will be at 10:00a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clark Rocca, officiating.
Burial will be in Stroud, OK at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Edith May McFarland was born to Charles & Virgie Melton on March 10, 1925. She went to school at Kendrick, OK. First, she worked as a painter for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS during WWII. The stars on many WWII aircrafts were hand painted by her. She married the love of her life, Jess E. McFarland on December 29, 1945 in Stroud, OK. As her family grew she took in ironing (by the piece) at her home. After her children were all enrolled in school, she spent many years in the grocery business.

Everyone in her home was welcomed with open arms and loved through her kitchen delicacies. Only God knows the number of souls blessed around her table. She was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers, seamstress, wonderful wife, mother and homemaker and she made countless afghans for her family. Her life was a labor of love caring for her family. In later life her home making skills were used as caregiver in the homes of elderly people whose lives were blessed and enriched by her skills.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alva Oklahoma prior to her retirement in Midland. After a setback in health, she continued to enjoy weekly Christian programs from her home.

Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Jess E. McFarland, parents, Charles & Virgie Melton, brothers, Hubert Melton, Otis Melton, Kenneth Melton, Junior Melton, sisters Lela Melton Henley, Opal Melton Sill, and several nieces and nephews.

Edith is survived by four children, daughter Carolyn J. Wilson and husband Allen Wilson of Alva, OK, son Gary D. McFarland of Odessa, TX, daughter Martha A. McFarland of Midland, TX, daughter Kathy McFarland Spoon of Athens, TX, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-laws, and multiple nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to New Mexico Christian Children Home, 1356 New Mexico, Portales, NM 88130-9411 or Hospice of Midland, 79701.
The family of Mrs. McFarland wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Emcompass Rehab and Dr. Shayeb.
