Edwin Paul Hallmark was born to Hugh and Susie Byrd Hallmark on Armistice Day, November 11, 1918 in Windom, Texas. He died February 1, 2009 at the age of 90, at the Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
Edwin lived with his family on a farm in the Loraine, Texas community and attended school there. After graduating from Loraine High School, he attended Texas Tech and graduated from Tech with a degree in chemical engineering. After graduation he went to work for Cosden Refinery in Big Spring, Texas for a short time and was drafted into the Army shortly after World War II began. He transferred into the Air Force and served his country, over 4 years, 17 months of that time was served in the Aleutian Islands, off the northern most coast of Alaska, across from Russia.
Upon his discharge in 1945, Ed went to Beaumont, Texas where he was employed by Mobil Oil Company. He retired from Mobil and he and his
wife Leonarah Young Hallmark moved to Austin, Texas. Unfortunately, Lees life was cut short by cancer and Ed was left alone.
In 1999, Ed moved to Odessa, Texas to be near his sister and her family. He grew up in West Texas but had to adjust to the wind, sand and dry heat after living on the Gulf Coast for so many years.
Mr. Hallmark was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Young Hallmark, parents Hugh and Susie Hallmark, and brother, John M. Hallmark.
He is survived by his sister, Louise Walker, Odessa, Texas, Step-son, Jon Young, Houston, Texas, niece, Becky Stanford, Odessa, Texas, two nephews, Dr. Hugh E. Hallmark, Denver, Colorado and Randy Walker, Sanford, North Carolina, also grand nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hallmark was a Methodist. His graveside services will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2009, with Rev. Donita Lea officiating.
