Elbert Babb, Jr.

Elbert Griffin Babb Jr., 92, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 in Midland.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, January 10, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel with Jody Wallin officiating.

Elbert was born in Decatur Georgia October 12, 1925. After moving to Odessa in 1937 and graduating from Odessa High School, Elbert joined the Navy in1942. After the war he returned to Odessa and after getting married to Bennie Dean Fields in 1946, went to Schreiner University to play football and later graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He returned to Odessa and worked for Allied Mechanical at Terminal and then C.A. Gray Heating and Air Conditioning, which later became the Bosworth Company, retiring in 1997. He loved watching Texas Tech sports, bird watching and especially watching his family grow.

Elbert is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Bennie Babb, his son, Michael Newton Babb, daughter Benna Babb, and his parents, Elbert Sr. and Norma.

He is survived by his brother, James Fuller Babb of Houston; grandson, Matt and wife, Madlyn Babb of Midland, grandsons, Neal and wife, Lara and Thomas and wife, Kaylean Buckingham of Odessa; granddaughters, Jessica and husband, Anthony Coursey of Odessa and Melissa Keown of Lubbock; 2 nieces and 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
