Eliseo Gonzalez

June 14, 1934 — August 8, 2012

Eliseo O. Smokey Gonzalez went to rest with our Heavenly Father on August 8, 2012 at the age of 78.

Smokey was born June 14, 1934 in Nueva Laredo, Mexico to Maximo Gonzalez and Eduviges Ocon. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. His passions in this life were his family, telling his family about the years he served in the USMC, and working in the oilfield. He married Lola on November 19, 1955, became widowed in 1988, and remarried on January 27, 1990 to Earnestina. Before retiring he was employed at The Texas Highway Department for one year and worked in the oilfield for about 50 years.

Smokey will be truly missed, but he left us with many awesome memories. He was a Catholic and a member of St. Josephs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Gonzalez, sisters, Juana Gonzalez and Connie Acosta and grandson Ryan Ybarra.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestina Gonzalez sons, Eliseo Gonzalez, Jr. and wife Lucy of Odessa, Texas, Robert Gonzalez and wife Ana of El Paso, Texas, Tito Martinez of Odessa, Texas, Roger Martinez and wife Melissa of Odessa daughters, Olivia Ybarra and husband Richard of Odessa, Texas,, Cynthia Martinez and partner Josie of Odessa, Texas sister Lily Sanchez of Midland Texas 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 10, 2012 and Saturday August 12, 2012. Rosary will be on Sunday August 12, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home. Service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 13, 2012 at St. Josephs Catholic Church with Father Chavez officiating. Resting place will be at the Los Angeles Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Hernandez, Robert Gonzalez, Jr., Tito Martinez, Roger Martinez, Reno Ramos, Raymond Brito, Junior Ramos, and Richard Ybarra.
