Ernest Eugene Rawlings, age 85, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 in Crane, Texas.
He was born December 11, 1924 in Big Spring, Texas to Idle Arnold and Wylie Montgomery Rawlings. He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 22, 1942 and reported for active duty on May 1, 1942 on the U.S.S. Clark. He served on the destroyer seeing action in several South Pacific engagements. He received his Honorable Discharge on December 12, 1944.
He married Marjorie Newton on March 6, 1951 in Sweetwater, Texas by J.Dee Cates, Baptist minister.
Ernest kept to himself and preferred to sit by himself reading quiet stories. As a young man, he enjoyed fishing, playing 42 dominoes and cards. As a profession, Ernest chose to be a carpet salesman and was successful. Through the years he was employed with House of Carpets, Boyds Carpet and Pinner Carpets.
He was preceded in death by his mother, dad, and sister.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margie his daughter, Judy Hargrove and soninlaw, Steve Hargrove of Odessa one grandchild, Stephen E. Hargrove and his wife, Lori and two great grandchildren of Odessa, and his half brother, Bill Rawlings of Snyder, Texas.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Monday, March 29, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Clydell Chapman officiating.
