Eston Gaston

July 17, 1931 — April 4, 2016

Eston Paul Gaston, age 84, of Odessa, TX, passed away on April 4, 2016 at his residence.

Eston was born on July 17, 1931 in Abilene, TX. He was the son of Earnest Elmer Gaston and Scota Simmons Gaston. He grew up and went to school in Abilene. He moved to Odessa in 1951 and joined the Odessa Fire Department. He was an honor student while attending Odessa College. On his days off he worked for Oberkampf Supply and became their warehouse manager. He retired from the OFD in 1976 as the Captain. Then he became Purchasing Agent for Oberkampf Supply. In 1980 Gaston and his son David started American Plumbing and Air Conditioning in Odessa and Expanded to Plano, TX and Lewisville, TX. They also started Castle Construction, which built new homes in Odessa and Round Rock, TX. Gaston later moved to Euless, TX in 1981 but moved back to Odessa in 1987. After returning to Odessa he started working at Morrison Supply as a Warehouse Manager and then later became controller until he retired in 2003.

Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife, Erion; sons, Greg Gaston, David Gaston, Dennis Gaston; daughter, Debby Huckeba McCollum; grandchildren, Michael Hermon, Holly Bailey, Christopher Gaston, Matthew Gaston, Shauna McCollum, Lori Jackson, Kayde Roundtree, Dallas Gaston, Kyla Gaston, Scota Gaston; great grandchildren, Casey, Skylar, Madi, Jaden, Kali, Blake, Brynnlee, Nathan and Willow; great great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Mark Paul.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Scota Gaston; brother, Kenneth F. Tatum and wife, Mickey; sisters, Monra Winn, Juanita Winn, Billie Pennick; daughter, Paula Gaston Hermon and grandson, Nathan Len Hermon.

Gaston was an avid hunter and fisherman. During his children's earlier days they had a place at the lake in Sweetwater where the family made many great memories they will never forget. He taught them how to fish, ski and even taught them how to drive the boat. Later they bought a motor home so they could make new memories out on the open road. After the children had grown, Gaston and Erion traveled to the southern islands, Hawaii many times and even to England and Scotland. With Odessa being their main home they decided to buy a vacation home in Granbury by the lake.

Gaston also was a 32nd degree Mason and an Odessa Shriner. A group of Shrines got together and rode their Shriner Motorcycles in the parades throughout West Texas. In El Paso, TX in 1983 the Shriner Motorcycle won 1st place.

All who knew Gaston knew he was a very honest man and his words were few but thoughtful and worth listening to. He did have a unique sense of humor and you never got the last straw, so to speak. He was a very dedicated, hardworking man, devoted to support his wife and children. He was a man that only had one way to do anything and that was the right way. Gaston served on the board at the City of Odessa Employees Credit Union and was President for many years. He also served on the Board of Trustees at the Odessa Tabernacle under Pastor Sam Jordan for many years. Presently a member of Grace Christian Fellowship.
