Ethel Hancock

August 13, 1922 — January 9, 2010

She was loyal, committed and faithful to her Lord and Savior, to her husband, family and friends. The void she leaves in the hearts of many will be felt for years.

Ethel Lillian Hancock went into the arms of her Lord Saturday morning January 9, 2010 in her home following years of tender loving care resulting from a stroke many years ago.

Ethel was born, August 13, 1922 in Kaufman County, Texas to a share croppers family. One of five sisters and one brother, her childhood life was busy helping the family farm crops, tend to the gardens and all the chores that were necessary in that era.

One of her first passions as a teenager was singing. Ethel and two of her sisters formed a singing trio singing at different schools, churches and other events.

Her school years were spent in Terrell, Texas and one afternoon while walking to the picture show with her sisters, she was introduced to the love of her life, Carroll Douglas Hancock CD of Royse City, Texas. After a romantic courtship they were married on February 15th, almost 69 years ago.

A few years later they moved to Baytown, Texas where CD worked for the railroad. Their next move was to Odessa, Texas in February of 1960 with their three sons, Don, David and Roger, where their sons all graduated from Permian High School.

With an empty nest, Ethel and CD spent the next several years living the RV life. Ethel enjoyed traveling the different states with family and friends which led into her hobbies of painting and stained glass. She greatly enjoyed recapturing the scenery she viewed while traveling and transferring them to canvas and glass.

Ethel gave of herself publicly also, serving for several years as a volunteer in the Womens Auxiliary and assisting in the public schools.

She was devout servant of the Lord and has been a member of Crescent Park Church of Christ since 1960. Ethel enjoyed baking and cooking and was one of the first to assist with foods for families at the church or neighbors in need when called upon.

But her favorite activity was enjoying the family, as she came from a large family environment. Her philosophy was, when one comes, they all should come

Ethel is survived by her devoted husband, CD Hancock, her three sons and their wives, Don and Judy Hancock of Grand Prairie, Texas, David and Kay Hancock of Lavon, Texas and Roger and Marilyn Hancock of Odessa, Texas. She also has five grandchildren: Jimmy Anderson of Odessa, Sharyn Vernon of Nevada, Texas, Steven Hancock of Lavon, Texas, Melissa Hancock Williams of Odessa, and JonEric Hancock of Odessa. Six great grandchildren: Jack Vernon, Justin, Ryan and Ethan Hancock, Morgan and Matthew Williams. One surviving sister, La Fon Miller of Chandler, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Remember, Ethel had a large family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James and Corrie Helm, three sisters: Alyne Brazier, Jimmie White Adams, Maymie Adams and one brother, F.A. Helm.
