Evelyn Marie Lafrentz

September 24, 1935 — January 16, 2025

Odessa

Evelyn Marie Lewallen Lafrentz, aged 89, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Evelyn was born in Brady, Texas in 1935 and moved with her family to Odessa around 1950. She was a very active student at Odessa High School: a member of the volleyball team, a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the Drill Squad, Drill Squad Sweetheart, Miss OHS, Prom Belle, Best All-Around Senior Girl, runner-up for Homecoming Queen, Secretary / Treasurer of her Junior & Senior class. She graduated from OHS in 1954. She was a member of the La Senoritas while going to school at Odessa College before moving on to North Texas State College in Denton, where she used her love of sports to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education. She met the love of her life, John D. Lafrentz while living in El Paso. After marrying in 1962, they settled in Odessa where she raised their 4 daughters.

They were happily married until his death in 2018.

Evelyn focused on raising her girls; Cindy, Kim, Cheri and Ann until the year 1978 when she went to work for First National Bank and became a Certified Financial Planner. She was an integral part of opening the Women's Financial Services department at the bank and served as its leader for many years. Evelyn was a fierce competitor and loved most sports. In their younger days, she and John were on a Co-Rec volleyball team and members of a bowling league. They both enjoyed playing golf and were active members at the Odessa Country Club, as well as the Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club. After retiring, she focused on enjoying her life with John. She was on the planning committee for the OHS Class of 1954 and helped with many of their events through the years. She was active in many bridge clubs, a book club and a bible study group here. She was well-loved and will be missed by many.

Evelyn was a member of the 6th and Jackson Church of Christ for over 60 years. Her love for Christ was the rock upon which she built a life filled with a wonderful family and many friends, a life that was blessed with many joys and also touched by many sorrows. We celebrate her life well lived and rejoice in knowing she is dancing again in the arms of her husband John in heaven.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lewallen; her parents, Robert and Floy Lewallen; her daughters, Cindy Lafrentz and Cheri Lafrentz; her loving husband of 56 years, John D. Lafrentz; and her granddaughter, Chasidy Munn.

She is survived by her daughters, Kim Lafrentz and her husband Nick Martin of Carrollton, Texas and Ann Lafrentz of Odessa; her grandchildren, James Jenkins, Jacoby Houston, Ian Carr, Samuel Woods, Riley Woods, and Isiah Wiley; great-grandchildren, Cadence, John Patrick, Jameson, Brooklyn, Jordynn, and Elijah; and her sister, Helen Fullerton.
