Florence M. Norwood, age 80, peacefully went to be with Jesus on August 21, 2017, surrounded by her loving family in her home in Odessa.
She was born May 21, 1937 in Grandfalls, TX to James S. and Eula Mae Culvahouse. She was one of eight children.
She married Sherman L. Norwood on August 26, 1954 at First Assembly of God Church in Odessa, TX. She and Sherman had a very happy and blessed marriage. They served together at First United Pentecostal Church for many years. They became members of the church in 1945, the year they were married. Their strength and their foundation was always found in their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Having a father as a pastor and serving with her husband, were instrumental in leading her to a lifelong dedication to the Lord. She spent her life serving others and her family. Florence was always available to visit patients in the hospital, send cards, bake a cake, or prepare a meal. She had a telephone ministry that was a blessing to so many. When she wasn't able to go, she would call. Many looked forward to the phone calls that Florence would always end with, "I'll be praying for you!"
Florence is remembered as always being happy, patient, humble, laughing, singing gospel hymns and playing the piano. She was a peacemaker. Our family is richer for having spent our lives with her and we will miss her greatly.
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time." 1 Peter 5:6
Today she is happily reunited with those who have gone before her: husband, Sherman L. Norwood; daughter, Nita Kay Norwood; parents, James S. Culvahouse and Eula Mae Culvahouse; brother, Eugene Culvahouse; sisters, Lucille Granbery, Dorothy Phillips, and Mary Lawson.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn; grandson and wife, Chris (Buddy Boy) and Danielle all of Odessa; brothers and sister in-laws, Wayne and El Wanda Culvahouse of Midland, Bill and Alice Culvahouse of Brownfield, TX; sister and brother in-law, Beverly and J.J. St. Germain of Alamogordo, NM. She also loved her great grand dogs, Sam, Lucy and Pixie.
A private Graveside Ceremony was held with close friends and family at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Hospice Chaplain Donnie Rollie officiating.
