Frances Pearlene Black, 92, of Odessa, Texas passed away on January 31, 2014. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 1:003:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, Odessa, Texas. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Randy Duckett of Second Baptist Church, Odessa, will officiate.
Frances was born in Haskell, Texas to Pearl and Leonard Banks on June 16, 1921. She graduated from Haskell High School at age 17 in 1938.
Frances married Frank Albert Black on February 10, 1940, in Amarillo, Texas. Through much of their married years she worked sidebyside with Frank in family businesses and later worked as a sales associate in Hallmark Card Shop. Frances was active in church work and in nurturing her friends and family.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Frank, her father and mother, her sister Lucille, and her brothers Leonard, Wilburn, and Jerry.
Frances is survived by her son Tyrone Black of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and her daughter, Frankie Lynette Price of Deming, New Mexico, and a sister Betty Hester. She has four grandsons, Lynn Skidmore, Shae Skidmore, Joel Black, and Noel Black, along with six great grandsons, one great granddaughter, and two greatgreat grandsons.
In her life, Frances observed the Golden Rule, lending a helping hand to many persons. She was a source of strength and solace to those who knew her. Frances will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Memorials may be given to the Second Baptist Church of Odessa or to the American Cancer Society.
