Frances Elizabeth Omachel was born March 8, 1923, in Pleasant Valley, PA to Thomas and Mary Krupa Piekarczyk. She not only was the first female in her hometown to graduate high school, but she did it while deaf. On November 16, 1946, she married the love of her life Nickolas Omachel in Claridge, PA. In the early years of their marriage, they moved across the country to Odessa, Texas where they started their beautiful family. Shortly after they came to Odessa they opened Nick’s Coffee Shop. In 1963 they managed and ran the local Dairy Queen, until retirement. Over the years they had five beautiful children while pouring their love into what was then, a small, dusty, West Texas town. They loved their children, and they loved their community. Frances showed her love through her food, she fed anyone and everyone, even the neighborhood at times. Anytime a family member, neighbor or church member was sick, she was there with a big pot of homemade soup. Not only did she love to cook, she also loved to garden. She had a natural green thumb like no other. Any seed she placed in the ground would grow; every rose bush she touched would bloom. Her world was filled with vibrant hues and fragrance of florals, that was just how she liked it. Not only did she devote her time to her family, cooking, and gardening, she was also a long-time active member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, she loved her church community and if she was not working the garden or chasing after grandkids, she was at the church, serving and loving on her community in any way and every way that she possibly could.
