Francis Warren

Francis Wendell Warren was born April 8, 1931, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, and passed away on March 13, 2009. He was the son of Ruby Jewell Nesmith and James P. Warren. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Sue Swinney and sister-in-law Dorothy Warren.

After high school, Wendell attended Hays University for two years and was inducted in the Army on July 10, 1951. He was honorably discharged. After his military service Wendell then finished his education at Washington University. Wendall began his career with State Farm in 1956 as a field claim adjuster in the Topeka, Kansas, Claim Office then moved to Dodge City. Twelve years later, he was promoted to claim superintendent in the Missouri-Kansas Regional Office. Wendell transferred to Chanute, Kansas, as the residential claim superintendent in 1971.

Throughout his career, Wendell made numerous contributions to the company. He was also an active leader in the Chanute community through Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trustees at the Neosho Community College. He was an active member of First Methodist Church in Chanute.

After retirement in 1994, Wendell fished and traveled throughout the United States and Canada. When he moved to Odessa, he taught English as a second language. He drove for Nissan delivering cars across West Texas.

He married Dorothy Adams on January 20, 2007, who survives him as does his daughter Michelle Diane Gerard of Dennison, Texas. He is also survived by step-children Sonia Maness of Odessa, and Don Brown of Brookshire, TX. He had seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, three step-grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren and one step-great, great grandchild. He is also survived by sisters Sandra Lancaster from Edmond, Oklahoma and Sharon Cooley Demaines from Iowa and brother Wayne Warren of Houston, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and life-long friend and brother-in-law Bob Swinney.

Family visitation will be Monday, March 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Adam Latham Scholarship Fund at Second Baptist Church Odessa, TX

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Second Baptist Church, 711 E. 17th, Odessa, TX. Officiating will be the Reverend Randy Duckett. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
