Frank Black

Odessa Frank Albert Black, 90, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in Odessa Texas.

Mr. Black was born on February 10, 1920 in Groom, Texas and was married on February 10, 1940 to Frances Banks. In 1951, he and his family moved from Amarillo to Odessa where Mr. Black operated a bread distributorship for Baldridge Bakery of Lubbock. Subsequently, he managed a building supply store, a department store, and a bakery sales force.

Mr. Black served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Lions Club, and a church deacon. In 2009, he was made a lifetime honorary deacon of the Second Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Frances Pearlene Black of Odessa a son, Tyrone Black of Hattiesburg, Mississippi a daughter, Lynette Price of Deming, New Mexico four grandsons and seven great grandchildren.

Mr. Black was preceded in death by his parents, George Murry Black and Maggie Lee Schaffer Black, and fourteen brothers and sisters.

Frank will be remembered as a gentle man who cherished his wife and loved his family. His garden filled his days, and so Christs Garden will suit him well:

God looked around his garden
There saw an empty place.
He turned his eyes to earth
Down upon Franks tired face.

He put his arms around him
Said youll never be alone.
Christs Garden must be beautiful
And now Frank is home.

It breaks our hearts to lose you
For us, you were the best.
But part of us will be with you
When you go to rest.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Duckett officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens will follow the services.

The family requests memorials be made to the Second Baptist Church, 711 East 17th, Odessa, Texas 79761.
