Frank Mijares, 53, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Hospice Home in Odessa.
He was born June 21, 1960, in Odessa to Lupe and Dolores Medrano Mijares. He attended school at St. Marys Catholic, Bowie JH, and Odessa High. He received his BS in Business Management and his MBA degree from University of Texas at the Permian Basin .
Frank has been blessed to work with many people in his lifetime in the Permian Basin. From 1997 1999, he worked for Smith International. If you have lived in the area for any amount of time, you know the oil field has had its ups and downs.
During one of its down times, Frank left the oil field to work for Ector County ISD and worked with numerous students and staff members as a teacher and administrator for 5.5 years until 2007 when he decided to return to the oilfield.
In 2008, Frank joined Pathfinder Energy Services, a division of Schlumberger, as a M.W.D. Within a year and half, he worked his way up in the business to Lead Directional Driller.
Many coworkers, friends, and family describe Frank as a very dedicated, professional employee. Nothing less than a debilitating illness could keep him from giving 100 on the job.
Despite battling cancer for almost two years now, Frank was still an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dolores and his brother Daniel Mijares.
Survivors include: his wife Angie Tavarez his children Rashell Mijares of The Woodlands, Frank Mijares Jr., Angelica Mijares, and Esteban Mijares all of Odessa his father Lupe Mijares of Lubbock his sisters Dora Turner and her husband Billy of Abernathy, and Estella Alvarado and her husband David of The Woodlands and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 8, 2013, and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, November 9, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Father Mark Woodruff officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Orlando Mendoza, Gary Fierro, Jay Garcia, Benny Medrano, Raymond Cantu and Rogelio Cantu.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Mijares Childrens Fund, 5 Moon Chase, Odessa, Texas 79762 in care of Belinda Martinez.
