G. Suber

G. H. Suber, age 83 of Odessa, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 in Odessa.

He was born June 6, 1929 the oldest of three children, to Gilbert and Imogene Suber in Merkel, Texas. He graduated from Merkel High School and then attended North Texas State.

G.H. was a boy scout as a young man and worked his way up to an eagle scout. He served in Abilene as a Scout Master for several years.

While a Scout Master, daddy studied the art of making arrow heads and other tools used by early Indians. A man once filmed many hours of daddys hands making an arrow head out of a piece of flint.

In 1962, daddy started raising parakeets. This small beginning turned into a hobby, having 11 species and 39 varieties of exotic birds over the years up until October of 2012, when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was known to many as the birdman.

Daddy worked for Lone Star Natural Gas Company in Abilene until he went to work for Southern Union Gas in Gallup, New Mexico. He then moved back to Abilene where he worked as a pipe line foreman until moving to Odessa, Texas as a foreman in the Water Department. He worked his way up to Superintendant. He later went to work for HBN Construction until the company folded in 1987, at which time he went to work for Scott Thane until he retired in 1997 to care for our mother until her passing in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his wife and devoted companion Ava Suber his parents, Gilbert and Imogene Suber and his sister, Ruby Jo Suber.

He is survived by three children, Deborah and Eugene Smith of Dumas, Texas, Michael and Marilyn Suber of Richland Springs, Texas, and Dannie and Isela Suber of El Paso, Texas eight grandchildren, Woody Dandridge, Jesse Dandridge, Sabrina Cook, Amy Tucker, Stacie Elizondo, Bethany Suber, Richard Suber and Zabrina Suber his sister Mary Idell Suber Selmon of Odessa fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation with the family will be 68 PM Friday, February 15, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with his son, Michael Suber, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank the Hospice staff for their care and love, and Carol and Reata Pruitt for their neighborly care and kindness.
