Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 5, 2011 from complications of diabetes to join his mother and father in heaven.
The youngest of three sons, Mike was 56 and was born in Midland to James D Wilson and Vivian Desha Wilson on October 9, 1954. He grew up in Odessa. A 1973 graduate of Permian High School, Mike married Pambala Watson in June of that year. They had just celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary.
Mike has always been entrepreneurial and learned construction from A to Z straight out of high school. Later, Mike spent some years in oilfield sales and financial services. However, his first love was always construction. In 1997, Mike founded Fence Supply which became Odessa Fence and has grown into one of the most successful businesses of its kind. No one paid more attention to detail than Mike. He was quick to action and did not tolerate ambivalence. In his usual humorous way, he would say, If youre waiting on me, youre backing up He could look at a challenge, dissect it, analyze it, and advance a solution quicker than most could frame the problem Mike had unparalleled vision.
Mike was a good athlete and loved sports, especially baseball and football. He coached Little League and Farm League. He was always interested in youth development and served for a time as president of Sherwood Little League and later on the board of the YMCA. His opinions on the game were always instructive. He followed sports from youth to the pros. You asked him about the Rangers last game or Mac Browns latest coaching move and you got an instant, spot on analysis as insightful as the best ESPN pundit
Mike is survived by his wife, Pam, and his two sons, Sean Wilson and wife Crystal, Scott Wilson and wife Jayme, 3 grandchildren, Noah and Natalie Wilson, and Audra Wilson, all of Odessa. Also surviving are two brothers Doug Wilson and wife Marlene of Houston, and Steve Wilson and wife Debra of Odessa.
Mike lived his life with elegant simplicity. He was a spiritual man, true to himself and his family. His pride was magnified with the addition of his grandchildren. He leaves a void impossible to replace. However, his legacy lives on and provides the model by which others may succeed.
Pall bearers include Roger Allen, Danny Marshall, Doug Wilson, Steve Wilson, John Wilson, Brian Wilson and Chris Wilson. Visitation will be 68pm, Thursday, July 7th at Sunset Funeral Home and services on Friday, July 8th, at 10am at Sherwood Baptist Church, with Dr Jimmy Braswell officiating. Donations to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
