Gatha Carrell Herron

Gatha Carrell Irvin Herron, 91, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, in Odessa, Texas.

She was born August 5, 1932, to J.E. and Alma (Bridges) Irvin in Drumright, Oklahoma. She was a twin and the fourth child out of six children.

Gatha moved to Roswell, New Mexico as a young adult where she met the love of her life, Albert Hurbert Herron. They were married on November 19, 1949, and moved to Odessa, Texas in 1976.

Gatha loved crocheting in her spare time, collecting clocks, and working in her yard tending to her many rose bushes. She loved making her homemade biscuits and gravy every Sunday when the family gathered. Gatha was a hard worker her whole life, which included driving a school bus and working the cotton fields in Roswell, NM, a security guard at Shell and being a home health provider to special friends Vivian, Lynn, and Rosa in Odessa, TX among other various occupations. She loved her family as they were her pride and joy. She adored spending time with them and was very protective of her loved ones. When not working, she could be found at the local go-kart track, racing with them and later being their biggest supporter.

Welcoming her into heaven with love are her husband, Albert Herron; son, Eddie Herron; granddaughters, Jennifer and Cassandra Herron; parents, J.E. and Alma Irvin; sisters, Retha Irvin, Marie Marchman; and brothers, Dan, twin Harrell, and Sonny Irvin.

Gatha will be deeply missed by her children, Wayne Herron and Fredia Bassham (Joe) of Baytown, TX, Rick Herron and Mike (Terri) Herron of Odessa, TX and Herbie Herron of Ft. Stockton, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
