Charlie Eugene Sloan, 79, of Odessa, Texas passed away on February 22, 2018 in Odessa, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Wray Cemetery in Young County.
Gene was born in Newcastle, Texas to C.P. and Zona Marie Elms Sloan on May 17, 1938. He married Ruby Harvey on August 2, 1958 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. They were married for 49 years until her death in 2007. He then married Eva Cardenas on December 16, 2008. Gene worked for Dixie Electric for 49 years. He started as a lineman climbing poles and retired as a construction supervisor.
Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. Over the years, he spent many weeks enjoying these pursuits with friends and family. He was the last of his "cronies" and therefore, tutored the next generations in the art of catching catfish in the Rio Grande.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Janet Runay and LaVerne; his first wife, Ruby; and son Darrin.
Survivors include: wife, Eva; son, Jerry and wife Janet'; granddaughters Casey Sims and husband Scott and Megan Gregg and husband Tim; grandson, Jake Sloan and wife Ana; great grandsons, Liam Sloan and Jerry Wayne Gregg; brother, Jerry R. Sloan and wife Beverly; sisters Joan Beckham and LaVonne Yeager and husband Ron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Aley, Tommy Muncy, Bobby Valdez, Willie Henegar, Scott Sims, Tim Gregg, and Ronnie Sloan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Janet Runay Sloan Memorial Scholarship Fund for students from Newcastle High School. Send donations c/o Joanna Manos, 1521 S. Rodgers Drive, Graham, Texas 76450.
