George Richard Brown, 83,devoted husband, doting father, proud Marine, loving relative, and generous friendwent home to be with the Lord on Good Friday, March 30, 2013. His final days were spent surrounded by those he loved while in the expert care of his doctors and the staff of Odessa Medical Center Hospital.
George, the second of eight children, was born to James Edgar and Rose Brown on July 18, 1929 in Maud, Oklahoma. Odessa, Texas became home from a young age, and it was in his adopted hometown where his keen sense of adventure was nurtured. Eager to see the world, he joined the armed forces in 1948. He served sixteen years with distinction in the Marines and five years in the Army, and received commendations, including The Purple Heart and The Bronze Star Medal, for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him, as friends and family will attest.
George is survived by his wife of 44 years Soon Kim Brown and his daughter Patsy Brown. He also leaves behind one brother M.J. Jay Brown of Odessa, two sisters Patsy Brown Terry of Odessa and Cookie Brown Murphy of Houston, as well as many beloved nephews, nieces, other relatives, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Doyle Brown and Thomas Ray Brown, and two sisters, Lorraine Brown Grace and Bonnie Brown.
George was blessed to have the loving care and support of many, and special appreciation goes to Dr. Madhava Agusala.
Visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home from 3 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, March 31, 2013. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday, April 1, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home chapel. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
