George Capps, Jr.

George William Capps, Jr, age 80 of Odessa, TX passed away January 27, 2018 in Odessa.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 2, 2018 from 6:00-8:00pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 1:00pm, Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel will Sylvia McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

George was born on May 11, 1937 to George William, Sr. and Doris (Cupp) Capps at Hillman Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Minor High School in 1957 and married Mary Anne "Anne" Walker on May 22, 1958. They lived in 4 states during their 59 years of marriage, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, and Texas. George worked for Brown's Furniture for several years, and Phillips 66 for 33 years. He retired from Phillips in 1999. He came out of retirement to work part-time for ECISD for 5+ years. He and Anne traveled for several years and had a blast. George served in the U.S. Army as an Engineer Supply Specialist and was honorably discharged on December 5, 1965. He was an E7, Sergeant 1st Class. George was also Chief of the Minor Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

If you asked him how he was doing he would always reply, "Good & 3 quarters", no matter how he was. He taught us to plan for the worst and hope for the best. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. He loved to tinker and work on everything. If something broke, Daddy would try to fix it because you can always learn from it. Then if needed call the repair man, it's already broke.

George is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Anne "Anne" Capps, his parents George Sr. and Doris (Cupp) Capps, and his great grandson Wyatt Blaine Owens.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sylvia Capps McIntyre and husband, Gordon of Brandon, Fla, Rhonda Elaine Burelsmith and husband, Craig of Odessa, TX, Paula Capps Owens and husband, Chilton of Odessa, TX; brother Harford W. Capps & wife Teresa of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Isaiah Alicea and partner, Jared Hale, William Alicea, Joy Driscoll, Heather Young, Summer Robas and husband, Bucky, Marcus Burelsmith and wife, Lynell, Donovan Owens and wife, Courtney, Andronica Owens, Shealynn Rogers, Kenneth Rogers; great grandchildren, Jacob , Calvin, Cole, Jason, Jonathon, Neylan, Bayleigh, Jaxon, Maci, Kimber, McKinleigh, Wyatt Blaine, Lane, Braxton and many wonderful friends.

Pallbearers are Isaiah Alicea, William Alicea, Marcus Burelsmith, Bucky Robas, Donavon Owens and Harford Capps. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Rogers, Bryan Capps and Shea Rogers.
