George Scott

July 22, 1943 — January 9, 2010

George Buford Scott, 66, passed away January 9, 2010 in Odessa. He was born in Odessa, TX, July 22, 1943 to G. B. and Faye Scott. He attended Permian High School and graduated in San Diego, CA. He turned cowboy from age thirteen and rode bulls and broncos. He then joined the Army August 10, 1960. While in the Army he served three tours of duty in Vietnam. He earned the Silver Star for gallantry in action which was presented by then Vice President Hubert Humphrey in El Paso, TX. He also received the bronze star and Purple Heart among many other honors. He retired from the military as a Master Sgt. on October 31, 1982 with honors. He then was employed by J.C. Penney as a senior loss prevention manager and retired after 20 years of service. He had a great love for his country.

He is survived by his loving wife Ellen, who is his sweetheart as well as his caregiver. He has five children and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. His children are Sandra Scott of Carson City, NV, George Scott, Peggy Scott and Lori Scott of Odessa, and Robert Scott of Conroe, Texas Sisters, Beth Beggs and husband, Gene, Mary Catherine Tinsley and husband Tom, Zelma Jean Eidson all of Odessa nieces and nephews, Becky Matthews and husband Brook of Katy, TX, Betsy Hoffman and husband Scott, Scott Eidson and wife Shannon of Witchita, KS, Garrett Eidson of Odessa and Teresa Tracy and Richard of Odessa, aunt Edith Zimmerman of San Angelo, TX, Pat Gower and husband George of Sebring, FL, stepson Tracy Vallance and wife Jan and brotherinlaw Robert Stout.

He is preceded in death by his mother Faye Mannan and stepfather Hugh Mannan, father G.B. Scott, his uncle Robert Zimmerman, grandparents George and Henrietta Zimmerman.

Family visitation is on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 5:00 7:00 PM.at Sunset Funeral Home. Military Funeral will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday January 13, 2010 at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel and honors also given by Patriot Guard of Midland, TX.

The families request memorials may be made to Vietnam Memorial at the airport.
