George William Stanford, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 22, 2018 in the care of Helping Hands Hospice in Dallas, TX.
George was born February 3, 1927 in Enid, Oklahoma to George Stanford, Sr. and Oca Dot Stanford as the second son of three boys. George, Sr. was a driller who spent time working in Hobbs, NM, Odessa, TX and Houston, TX., so the family moved quite a bit during George, Jr.'s early years.
George went to Odessa High School when it was on 10th St. but graduated from Sam Houston High School in Houston, TX in 1944. His nickname in high school was "Odessa". Instead of going to Rice University to play football, he joined the United States Navy before WWII was finished. Serving in the Navy during that conflict and then recalled to serve again for the Korean conflict shortly after his first-born child arrived in September of 1950. Returning home in 1952 from the Navy to create a second child, his daughter in 1954. After his service, he went to work for the United States Postal Service and retired 32 years later. There were some lapses in his postal service, while he tried to better his family's well-being. He also worked as a Home Designer/Draftsman, Material Man for Oilfield Construction, and Pricing Coordinator for a well-known oilfield supply store.
George is preceded in death by his bride of 56 years, Mary Irene Stanford; grandson, Josh Trekell; his parents, George Sr., and Oca Dot Stanford; two brothers, Lamar and Donald Stanford.
George is survived by both his children, Bill Stanford and wife, Becky of Odessa, TX and Theresa Trekell and her husband, Don of Dallas, TX; grandson, Scott Stanford and wife, Shelly of Granbury, TX; granddaughters, Emily Sharma of Dallas, TX and Allison Wendt of Odessa, TX.
