Gerald Gene Cargile
Gerald left this world early Sunday morning July 3, 2011, to join his beloved Elaine in heaven. Gerald passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 11, 1926 in Washburn, MO to Pansy and Lonnie Cargile. He served in the Pacific during WW II and returned to Washburn to marry his childhood sweetheart, Elaine Louise Daniels on November 14, 1946. The newlyweds farmed on the family homestead until 1954 when Gerald moved to west Texas to work in the oilfield. Gerald worked hard, starting as a green roughneck and retiring as drilling superintendent. He and Elaine lived a thrifty life and were able to retire early. He was blessed with 24 years of very active retirement doing exactly what he wanted riding horses and working his small farm. Gerald was a strong yet kind man, and he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Gerald is survived by two children, daughter Peggy and husband Dwight Cameron of Odessa and son Mickey Cargile of Midland, TX. Two grandchildren, Deanna and husband Stacy Bledsoe and Amy and husband Jason Cornutt, along with six greatgrandchildren, Kelsea, Lindsay and Makenzie Bledsoe and Chance Bryant, Dakota and Hunter Cornutt all of Odessa.
Geralds family, friends and coworkers agree that he was the hardest working man they knew.
Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011 in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Johnny Thomason of Life Change Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
