Gladys Lewis, age 80, of Odessa, TX, passed away on January 7, 2016 in Odessa.
Gladys was born on September 24, 1935 to Charles Houston Dickey and Ethyl Lorraine (Thomas) Dickey in McAllen, TX. She grew up in Odessa, TX and at the tender age of 16 married the love of her life, Edward L. Lewis on June 1, 1952 in Andrews, TX. From that day until January 2001 when Edward passed away, she was his "Princess" and he was her "King".
Gladys worked as the sporting goods manager at TG&Y department store for many years and then as a bank teller with First National Bank in Odessa. She retired from working in the 80's and began a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was a faithful wife and a caring mother. She had a sweet smile and kindness for those she met. For many years she and Edward attended Temple Baptist Church.
Gladys is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward L. Lewis; son, Michael Ray Lewis; sister, Ruby Sosbee; brother, Junior H. Dickey and her parents, Charles H. Dickey and Ethel Thomas Dickey Childress.
She is survived by her son, Edward L. Lewis, Jr. and wife Julie of Ft. Davis; daughter, Cathy D. Betzel and spouse, Leonard and Sharon Lewis Burns, both of Odessa; brother, Harold Dickey of Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 4:00 pm, Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Madison Medical for the love they gave Gladys the last two years. A special thank you to Home Hospice for their love and care for Gladys over the last year and in her final days.
