Grover went to Heaven on Jan. 5, 2011 to be with Jesus and loved ones who have gone on before him. He was born on the family farm in the Proctor community, Comanche County, Texas on November 1, 1925. He was the fifth of eleven children born to Grover Shanks, Sr. and Clara Hightower Shanks. He was preceded in death by both parents, two sisters, Norene Guill and Eva May Shanks, and brothers, Clim, Doyle, Howard and John.
Grover is survived by his wife Doylean Coates Shanks whom he married on April 24, 1948, his daughters, Barbara and Dennis Gray of Odessa, Brenda and Erick Lenert of Tyler, Texas and Bryana Adams of Emery, Texas. He had five grandchildren and eleven great grand children. Also surviving are three brothers, Charlie of Big Spring, Autov of Del Rio and Wade of Big Spring and one sister, Jimmye Burks of Big Spring.
He served in the Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946. He worked for Sid Richardson Carbon Black plant, and he was in the self service laundry business and worked in maintenance at Odessa College.
He was a Baptist and a member of Vine Baptist Church.
Visitation with the family will be 68 PM Friday, January 7, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home at 10 AM on Saturday January 8, 2011 with Johnny Touchstone, Edmond Wheeles and Weeks DuBose, officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Cemetery at 3 PM Saturday in Big Spring Tx.
