H. Terry

April 11, 1923 — August 29, 2018

Hollis Terry, age 95, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018, in Midland.

Hollis was born April 11, 1923 in Profit, TX, to William Walter Terry and Hattie Cornelia Kavett McDermott. He was the youngest of 9 children and was somewhat of a rascal growing up in Newcastle, TX and Smyer, TX. He never graduated from high school because he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) before World War II then enlisted in the Army Air Force on December 2, 1942. He served 18 months overseas stationed in Saipan and was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945. Hollis was disabled in the service of his country when a Bombay door closed abruptly hitting him in the head and causing his left retina to detach.

He married Billie Jean Childress on November 20, 1948 in Snyder, TX. and they moved to Odessa that same year where he worked as an oil field roughneck. Deciding to change his profession, he became a plumber joining the Plumbers and Pipefitters local union. He proudly worked on many commercial buildings in the Midland/Odessa area including Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Fasken Towers in Midland, TX, many office buildings in the Claydesta complex as well as other buildings around the area. He has received his 60-year pin as a Master plumber.

Hollis is preceded in death by his wife, Billie, of Odessa and daughter, Bernice Janette (Jan) Cutbirth of Monahans.

He is survived by his son, Robert H. (Bob) Terry and wife Sharla of Odessa, TX; daughter, Vicki L. Ennis and husband Pat of Midland, TX; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
